veteran park by Scot Young

he was drafted
a hot prospect
by the giants in 67
infantry in
68

somewhere north of the mekong
pitching for charlie
company
my lai
with the bases loaded
he blew out
his mind

today
no dugouts or bullpens
in this ward of word slobber
he stands bent
staring home
through eastwood eyes
waiting for a sign
dust dancing
in the sunlight
like confetti
from the world series

  1. No words, Scot, except powerful!

  2. Memorable.
I sit here and remember stories of other Vietnam vets, who have crossed my path. Each carry the effects, one way or the other.

  3. Rex Sexton Says:

Inside the park, home run. A dazzle of base rounding, expert slide home.

  4. thanks all for the read and comments
