When you dumped me,
“not because” you found
someone new; but just
“to be free.”
I reminded you that
you’d said or written
you loved me over
a thousand times.
You smiled, locked my
eyes, and whispered:
“I was lying every time.”
I don’t blame you
for my subsequent
stays in mental-hospitals,
or relapse back into heroin
addiction: That was my doing.
I only hold you
accountable for one thing:
I can no longer tell truth from a lie.
